There’s nothing that makes me happier than a wrap dress. DVF was spot on when she created her wrap dress empire. Whether it is a crazy print or a solid colors, the wrap dress is the most universally flattering piece of clothing out there. The adjustable waist is your replacement for the tailor – you make it fit you. None of us expect that everything will fit us off the rack and if you can, you’re incredibly lucky.
I know I’ve become incredibly close with my tailor who recently informed me I have a sway back. I assumed it was a positive thing and a great explanation why nothing I buy (except Free People shapeless tops) fits me perfectly. I mean, she said that ballerinas and gymnasts have them so I concluded I was in great company. Never having heard the term before, I went home and googled it. Doesn’t everyone? The first page of results are all about how to fix this “disease” (i.e. it isn’t something desirable). Awesome.
I’ll admit I was concerned for about 2 minutes before getting distracted with something else (most likely outfit planning). Truth is, I’ve never broken a bone or sprained anything! As a child, this is extremely disappointing because I really really wanted a brightly colored cast to get all my friends’ signatures on. But you know what’s not disappointing? DvF is the master of wrap dresses, and Yumi Kim is the master of florals — it is hard to do a floral that is super pretty but sophisticated, and Kim’s florals are bang on perfect. Great dress!
