With a romantic holiday around the corner, I thought it would be fun to share a Valentine’s makeup look. Navigating the world of eyeliner and highlighter can be hard. Especially when there are so many options and you don’t know what’s good! So, I hope this helps. Plus, find out how to win a complete set of my favorite lipsticks!
As y’all know, I was a skincare girl first. I love anything that has potential to make my skin look flawless. As unrealistic as that might be. But I’ve been dabbling in makeup for a few years ever since I worked at Hourglass Cosmetics. While I love a natural makeup look, there are times when I like to play a few things up. Valentine’s Day any date night, or chance to go out are a few of those. So what’s my go to look? Or rather what do I amp up? Eyeliner, highlighter, and a bold lip.
Let me walk you through my Valentine’s makeup routine!
Face oil.
My first step after a clean face is to put on face oil with this moisturizer. I know it seems weird to put on oil before makeup (since oily faces are not highly coveted) but it’s how I get that subtle glow. I swear by it. It also helps to prevent my makeup from getting cakey and dull looking. A couple drops is plenty here!
CC creme.
I’ve talked about this Erborian CC Creme before and I love how well it tones down any imperfections in my skin. It doesn’t completely cover them but it isn’t intended to. That’s for foundation. It’s downright impressive how much it does cover though. It’s also one of Sephora’s top sellers.
Foundation.
I use two different foundations depending on the coverage I need. To create this look I used this Vanish stick in the color Warm Ivory. It’s a full coverage option that applies really well without the caked on look. It’s best applied with this brush. On days where I need a little less, this Tint Skin is my favorite because it’s 100% non-toxic. I use this about 85% of the time and I’ve seen a drastic improvement in my skin since I started using it. I use Linen and Sand depending on how tan I am. I also put foundation on my eyelids as a base for eyeshadow!
Under eye corrector.
Since I have dark circles, this is a new step in my process that I’m playing with. Concealer alone doesn’t seem to cut it - at least that’s the consensus I’ve been getting from watching makeup tutorials on repeat. I love this Bobbi Brown Under Eye Corrector. It works really well. I was also impressed by how well I color matched myself online. I’m the color light to medium bisque.
Concealer.
I am using this concealer because I love that it’s 100% safe. The click pen application is amazing. It’s so easy. It’s lighter coverage and it does come out on the orange side to balance out green/purple dark circles. I use a beauty blender under my eyes in a triangle shape.
Eye shadow.
When it comes to eyeshadow, I usually use a minimum amount. I love the Urban Decay Naked palettes because it’s a one stop shop for every eye makeup look. Even though I have my favorites, I like the options. For going out, I put a layer of the color Dust over my eyelid. If I’m feeling it, I’ll put Strange along my brown bone.
Eyeliner.
This is a must. I’ve experimented with a bunch of eyeliners over the years and rarely end up repeating. I have deepset eyes and I love the winged look which can be extremely hard depending on the formula and the brush of the eyeliner. I just got the Tarte one and am loving it. It has a longer tip on one side and the other has a short tip. The key to a winged eye on deepset eyes is to start the wing pretty low off the corner of your eye. Draw it on as if it was another eyelash.
Mascara.
When it comes to eyelashes, it can be incredibly challenging to get those long lashes we all covet. One of the most important steps is eyelash primer. Apply and then wait 30 seconds before putting on mascara. I've been using this mascara lately because it's 100% safe. It's a little more effort to build it up and get those long lashes but I wear this every day of the week. My favorite mascara of all time (because it performs the best) is this one by Makeup Forever.
Blush.
Blush is one of my favorite products. I use it every day in my 5-minute makeup routine. It can take you from tired to wide awake in seconds. I personally love this blush duo in Flamingo/Apricot. You only need a tiny bit of product and it goes a long way so it lasts forever. It's formulated without heavy metals and is another safe favorite! Amp it up with more Flamingo, tone it down with more Apricot. I use this blush brush to apply.
Highlighter.
This is a newer step to my routine. I originally bought the Becca highlighter after hearing so many amazing things. I got the mini in Opal to test it out and would definitely repurchase. It's not too crazy either so on days when I have a little extra time, I'll even wear it to work. I put this along my cheekbones and temples. I also draw a line down my nose to "slim" it too! You can either use the edge of the blush brush to apply or you can use a highlighter brush.
Brows.
I love dark brows. Luckily, I have darker brows and I try really hard to not over-manicure them. I used the Beautycounter brow pencil to accentuate my brows in the color medium. I draw on the lines in the same direction of my hairs after brushing my eyebrow hair up. I also love the Givenchy brow gel if you're looking for something a little more bold. I actually use the Brunette color in that one!
Bold Lip.
This is the main event and the key to any date night look! I always top off my makeup look with this Glo Skin Beauty Suede Matte Crayon. I used to be a liquid lip girl but once I tried this crayon I totally converted. It's great for all seasons because it's not too drying but also offers that bold color that can be hard to achieve. It's also lasts for a really long time - people always ask me what I'm wearing. You can read my full review here! Follow along in Instagram for how to win a full set tonight! I use every single shade of theirs!
Have you used any of the products in my Valentine's makeup look? Do you have any favorites? Please share!
