Face mist sprays were one of my 8 spring beauty trends that I said I was dying to try a few weeks ago. So what exactly is a facial mist? Here is everything you need to know about a face mist spray.
Before a few weeks ago, I admittedly had no idea what a facial mist was. I had 3 of them sitting in my medicine cabinet and I figured I would never use them. However, once I actually looked into them and how to use them, I decided I was going to give it a go. Anyone who has followed me on Instagram for a day has seen me talk about skincare. I’m very passionate about skincare. So adding another step to my routine (even one as simple and fast as this) was right up my alley.
What is a face mist spray?
Face mist sprays, or facial mists as I like to call them, usually come in the form of a bottle with liquid inside. They are mostly made of water but various brands add other ingredients to make for a nutrient packed formula. Every single one I’ve seen is applied via spray or spritzing if you wanted to get fancy. You can get something super simple like an Evian or you can go a little more luxury with it like the ones I’ve been using by Beautycounter. Facial mists are often infused with ingredients like essentials oils, botanical extracts, and glycerin.
Why you need a face mist spray.
There are quite a few benefits to using a face mist spray and they all revolve around hydration. Hydrated skin appears smoother and has a built in glow. Both of these contribute to the way your make up looks (i.e. it looks better).
My favorite face mist spray.
I’ve been dabbling with quite a few facial mists and honestly the ones I like the best are based on scents. I have two favorites at the moment. This charcoal one is my favorite because I feel like it balances my skin really well. I also love the scent of it. It’s vaguely reminiscent of essential oils and I feel like it’s quite calming if you breathe in a little at the end. My second favorite one is this citrus one which is amazing for the morning. It really wakes you up! You guys know that Beautycounter is one of my favorite brands because of the safe ingredients and their social mission. How to use a face mist spray.
Facial mists can be used quite a few ways. I’ve been experimenting with using a face mist at all points in my skincare and makeup routine over the past few weeks. You can pretty much use a face mist spray at any point in time. In fact, the only time I’ve read you shouldn’t use them is right before you get on an airplane. The air ventilation on planes + added moisture serves to accelerate your skin drying out. Here are the steps to use a facial mist:
- When you use a face mist, hold it about six inches away from your face.
- Let it sit for a minute.
- Blot off the extra with a tissue.
It’s super easy! And it feels so moisturizing.
When to use a facial mist.
Before your skincare routine to seal extra moisture into your skin. I always pat my face dry after I get out of the shower. Supposedly, you’re not supposed to do this. So, I’ve been spritizing my face with a facial mist after I dry my face. Sound a little extra? My makeup applies smoother and my skin has more of a glow so I’m not complaining.
To refresh. One of my favorite reasons to keep using this is to just give yourself a little refresh. Whether it’s the feeling of a cool mist on your face or the essential oils in your facial mist, I love how it feels. Granted, I definitely didn’t love the feeling of water being misted onto my face the first couple tries. I’ve now come to enjoy it and even considered bringing a bottle to my desk at work to keep me going during the day. Would that be a little extra? I think so but I’m all about it.
Over your makeup. You can use a face mist over makeup that has been on your face all day or just after you put it on. I read that if you really want to get the best results, you should be using it between every powder in your skincare routine. I’ve tried this and I’ve tried only applying when I remember (mostly at the end) and both work equally as well. I do feel like makeup layers better when you are spraying after every step but it’s probably not as necessary. You can also use it to set your makeup and remove the powdery finish.
Have you used a face mist spray? Do you think you’ll give it a try now?
