When it comes to traveling with beauty products, it can be downright terrifying. Mostly, because you think of all the things you have to do without. Whether it’s leaving something behind or avoiding spillage, there are a lot of challenges that come with being female. So here are my tips on how to travel with beauty products.
Travel Beauty Products Tip#1: Cosmetics Bags.
Yes, I said bags as in plural. There is no way you can fit both your makeup and skincare in one bag unless you are backpacking. If you have the right bags, you won’t have to sacrifice either. The best bags I’ve found are this travel bag and this cosmetics bag. They last for years (mine are going on 5 years), are easily wiped off, and surprisingly resilient despite the bright white cover. Use the smaller cosmetics bag for whichever you have less of (makeup or skincare). I’ve found that since I use makeup and skincare at separate times of the day, it’s easier to break it up like this.
Lastly, sometimes you just need to use a Ziploc. Throw it back to the good old days and get a gallon sized bag to make sure your bigger bottles don’t spill all over your clothing. Funny story: when I first met Matt, he carried his toiletries in a Ziploc. It took about one trip together before I put an end to that and got him a good dopp kit. Now, we use Ziplocs for carrying sunscreen and aloe.
Travel Beauty Products Tip#2: Travel sized products.
So many products come in travel sized versions now! Take advantage of the Sephora 2x points sale and stock up on some. There are 433 mini sized products on the Sephora website so there will be no shortage of options. You’ll probably even be able to find the brand you use already. This is also a really affordable and effective way to sample new things! The other option is to bring those Sephora samples with you if you’re going on a quick trip over a weekend.
Travel Beauty Products Tip#3: Get mini containers.
When you can’t find a travel sized version of your favorite products, no worries! Travel containers come in all shapes and sizes these days. From really basic to more stylish, you can find whatever size you need. They’re also really affordable so you don’t have to worry if you leave one behind on accident!
Travel Beauty Products Tip#4: Measure it.
You know how much product you use on a daily basis. Count it out! If you’re not bringing the whole tube with you, grab one of those mini containers and squeeze a drop or dollop into an empty one for every day. Give yourself a little extra just in case.
Travel Beauty Products Tip#5: Minimize.
Identify your essentials and take them with you. If you’re thinking that everything in your routine is an “essential” then push yourself to really ask what the impact is. Think about the length of your trip and whether or not you can do without something for that long. There will probably be more things you can leave behind for shorter trips and more essentials for longer trips. This is normal! Here are a few ideas:
- Take an all-in-one palette with you.
- Practice that natural glow with a little CC Creme.
- Bring a comb instead of a brush. It takes up less space and is better for your hair.
- Bring these clear elastics and experiment with braids.
- Leave your shampoo and conditioner behind and sub in some of your favorite dry shampoo.
Do you have any other tips for your travel beauty products? I’d love to hear them!
