It’s back to work today and you’re not mentally ready. Sounds familiar? Me too. Inevitably, you wonder what the heck you’re going to wear to the office today. Let me help. Here are some stylish office outfits to try this month to start the new year strong!
I started sharing my work office outfits last October on Instagram Stories every morning. I had no idea it would be so well received! It makes sense since most of us (myself included) spend most of our time in an office. Finding outfits that are work appropriate and still stylish is a constant challenge. Some days, you just don’t have the energy to pick out something cute. My office OOTDs are intended to help! If you need a little inspiration, watch every morning as I walk you through my outfit, how everything fits, and different ways to style everything on Instagram! You can always check back here if you miss a day too.
While the OOTDs are more realtime, I wanted to do a post that was more formal (i.e. shot with a professional camera). While I love sharing things with you that are raw, my professional career is a huge part of who I am (and here’s why I’m not quitting it) so I wanted to do it justice here on Visions of Vogue. I also just like the look of professional photos better (no matter what the Instagram algorithm thinks of them)! I can’t help it. I love the look of polished pictures!
Today’s post is designed to show the 4 different categories of office outfits that I tend to wear the most. Since I work in a more business casual workplace, I’m able to wear denim to work but you can easily swap out jeans for business slacks or a pencil skirt too. All of my outfits of the day for the office are like that! I talk through the ways to re-style things in my Instagram Stories every morning too! But I digress. Let’s get to the point. Here are the 4 “formulas” for my office outfits. I wear each of the formals on repeat, just swapping out individual pieces to create different looks.
A classic blazer.

Whether you’re headed to an interview or you just want to dress up that day, blazers instantly spruce up your look. I don’t think there’s any other piece of clothing that says “boss babe” better than a blazer. Own it. I’m all about female success in the workplace so dress the part. Nail that business meeting. Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Invest in a good blazer and have fun playing around with the many ways to style it (more inspiration to come)!
My favorite blazers are the J.Crew blazers like this one. I own the J.Crew skirt suit and it’s my go-to for job interviews. I believe in embracing the fact that I’m female versus trying to wear a pantsuit to blend in with the boys. While I definitely wear a lot of pants too, I’m about standing out. So far, so good. Nordstrom has a ton of options if you’re not ready for this investment just yet. However, I’d recommend buying one suit and just wearing the blazer separately if you’re new in your career. You’ll get the most mileage out of it this way. And I’d recommend starting with black or navy. Grab this camel one when you’re a few years in unless your preppy self just can’t resist!
Sweater and a button down.
Coral Blouson Sleeve Sweater ($55!) | White Button Down (old by Jared Lang, great basic here) |White Skinny Jeans | Beige Crossbody Bag |Â Tortoise Sunglasses | Beige Loafers
This is one of the most timeless combinations ever. There are so many ways to wear this style. You can wear a basic crewneck and a button down. You can also try mixing up the sweater style like I have here. At this point in my career, I’m ready for a change up. While I love the basics, I love trying new shapes like bubble or puffy sleeves with a structured button down top. Just make sure the neckline isn’t too wide and you can’t go wrong.
My closet consists of button downs in a variety of colors and prints and sweaters like this. That way, I have endless combinations I can rock on any given day. Since the sweater and button down combination is so classic, it’s my go to on days where I’m not feeling very inspired. It’s easy and it never fails to impress.
Work dress.
This is one of the easiest office outfits to style. You don’t have to match anything! All you have to do is slip into a work dress and find a matching pair of work pumps! Dresses make up quite a large portion of my closet for this reason. They are huge time savers mid week. Whenever I see a great deal on a work dress, I take advantage of it! They can also often be styled with OTK boots in the winter to keep you warm on your way to work and once in the office. This dress is sill available in a cinnamon color but I’ve rounded up 10 of my favorite work dresses above and they are all under $150.
Mini skirt.

This is the most stylishly daring outfit from today. While mini skirts have the potential to go wrong when worn to the office, they can also go right. Since it’s freezing here in Chicago, I paired my tweed skirt with over the knee boots. I’ve gotten a lot of questions about how to style OTK boots for the office lately and here is a great example! The cozy sweater on top keeps this outfit work appropriate and I’m not showing too much skin on the leg. The muted colors also help to ensure that this look is appropriate for any office. Tweed is a classic work texture too which helps bring this look into any workplace setting.
What do you typically wear to work? Do you have any go to office outfits?
