Seattle Travel Guide

If you missed my trip to Seattle recently, don’t worry about it. Today’s post will cover everything you need to see and eat. I’m testing out this travel guide thing because Matt and I often find ourselves in different cities so let me know what you think!

Places to Stay:

The first thing on everyone’s mind when planning a trip (besides the flight) is where to stay. It’s so easy to get around in Seattle (Uber is everywhere) that it doesn’t really matter what area you stay in. We stayed with a friend in Queen Anne which is a super cute little neighborhood. For those of you looking for hotels, try The Paramount Hotel, The Hampton Inn for more affordable rates, or Hotel Ballard if you’re in search of a bit of luxury.

Places to See:

First, let’s start with the 10,000 ft level. Literally. We went to the Sky View Observatory which touted itself as having the best view of the city. It was absolutely right. All of the fires from Eastern Washington have affected the air quality all the way to Seattle so the view was a little hazy but on a clear day, this view would have been 10x better! It’s $15 to get in and is much less crowded than the Space Needle.

In full disclosure, the main reason we went to Seattle was to see the White Sox play the Mariners at Safeco Park. Matt has decided he wants to visit every baseball stadium in America so guess what, that means I am going too! Yay. The stadium has some decent food options (even for a vegetarian) and we stopped by Pyramid Brewery before the game started for a beer slash glass of wine.

We also visited Chihuly Gardens which hosts these beautiful blown glass structures. The maker of this glass art also did the ceiling at The Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. There are tons more pieces but this one, located in the glass house, was by far my favorite! Can you imagine this as a wedding venue? Stunning!

Chihuly Gardens is right next to the Space Needle which makes things super convenient. We decided against waiting in line to go up to the top because we had gotten a great view of the city already so we just took a few snaps from the ground!

Pike Place market was another stop on our list. I love a farmer’s market any day but one in a different city? I’m even more in. They sell the most gorgeous bouquets of flowers for just $5 and they make fresh ones throughout the day! The guys in Seattle have it so easy when it comes to romancing their ladies! Matt told me he’d buy me flowers more often if we lived there… that’s sweet, I guess?

We also found this donut stand that made miniature donuts – so delicious! Who doesn’t love everything mini? The line was long but moved quickly (which is how you know it’s worth going to).

Right near Pike Place, there is a gum wall. It seemed a little gross in theory and when we arrived, it was… but it was a pretty interesting sight nonetheless! Definitely worth a walk through. We noticed there were several business cards on the wall too – that’s one way to advertise!

If you love your coffee, the original Starbucks is right around here so make sure you stop by. Be warned, the line is long but there is plenty of people watching to do while you wait! And as any fashionista will tell you, make sure to visit the Flagship Nordstrom store in the heart of downtown too.

Places to Eat:

Basically, my life revolves around brunch. SO the best 2 places in Seattle are Portage Bay and Lola. At Portage Bay, make sure you get something with the breakfast bar. They have the most amazing selection of fresh fruit and toppings to elevate your pancakes/french toast. The vegan banana pancakes are to die for and they will serve you just 1 – I ordered it :) At Lola, order the donuts for the table to share. I opted for the granola (I can’t ever pass up granola and greek yogurt on a menu) but the rest of their table loved their egg dishes as well.

If you like eating on the go, Pike Place has a bunch of stands and we snacked along the way. Apple slices, hot sauces, and the piroshky bakery all come highly recommended!
