Last week, I promised to give you guys a resort review in my Maldives travel guide. Milaidhoo, the first resort we stayed at, impressed us so much that I felt like it deserved a whole post. There were so many details that surprised and delighted us both! Here is the full Maldives resort review of Milaidhoo.
Maldives Resort Review: Milaidhoo – Getting there
I’m going to start at the airport because that was how quickly we noticed superior service! You know a resort is good if they welcome you the second you get off your flight, not even the second you arrive at the resort! We arrived at the Malé airport and immediately found our representative from Milaidhoo after we went through security. She was so nice and took such great care of us that immediately we knew we had made the right decision. After we were ticketed for our (next) flight, she guided us to the Milaidhoo lounge which was a quick 5 minute drive away from the main airport. There was complimentary WiFi, fresh fruit, assorted snacks and beverages available. Since our next flight was via seaplane, we would not be going back into the main airport.
Thinking we would be there awhile, we settled in but within 10 minutes, she came back to tell us our plane was ready to go. The seaplanes are great because they have more flexibility than a regular airplane. The staff helped us carry our bags to the seaplane terminal and after another short wait, we were walking out on the dock to our plane! Flying over the Maldives in a seaplane was one of the coolest experiences for us!
We got dropped off on a tiny dock in the middle of the ocean where a boat from Milaidhoo was waiting to pick us up. 10 minutes later, we were getting off the boat onto the dock at Milaidhoo. It was after sunset so we couldn’t see much but the staff was so welcoming and we could not wait to get to our room! We were greeted with not one but two beverage choices: champagne and coconut milk with vanilla in it. Both were much needed after a day of travel (we had come from Dubai).

Maldives Resort Review: Milaidhoo Resort tour.
Our personal host took us on a short resort tour before bringing us to our overwater hut. When he opened the door, Matt and I looked at each other in disbelief. This was probably one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. We had an enormous king size bed, a basket of great fruit, ample closet space (a his and hers side), and the most gorgeous bathroom ever. If you saw my room tour on Instagram, you know I loved the tile floors! Every amenity you could have wanted was available. It was truly a dream!
Outside, our deck had a private pool overlooking the ocean. There was a day bed, as well as individual loungers, and a swinging bed. We could have stayed there for a week and been able to enjoy the sun from a different spot every day! If never leaving was an option, we would have taken it!
Our host let us know he was available 24 hours of the day for whatever we needed. Whether it was water, arranging an activity, or even just driving us to a restaurant. You could call him from the room on his cell phone. He checked in on us regularly (but not too much) and was so gracious. We truly felt welcomed!
Maldives Resort Review: Milaidhoo – What to eat.
On our first night, we changed for dinner and headed to the main restaurant: Ocean. They had a buffet that night as well as the option to order a la carte from a very diverse menu. They were so accommodating to me being vegan and offered multiple times to have the chef prepare something else for me! We sat on the edge of the deck with the ocean waves just a few feet away!
Ocean was also where we had breakfast every morning. There was a similar set up for breakfast: a buffet as well as the option to order a la carte. Matt and I both agree this was the best buffet we’d eaten at. Everything from the pastries to avocado toast impressed us both. I know this sounds weird but they had the best mushrooms at every single meal (I love mushrooms). There was even someone that cut up fresh fruit right in front of you every day! Matt loved the waffles and pancakes as well – they had so many toppings options, even Nutella and bananas!
Food wise, there were 3 other restaurants at Milaidhoo. We tried 2 of the 3! For dinner the second night we went to Shoreline Grill and got to sit in an outdoor hut on the beach while we enjoyed our dinner. Again, I don’t think a single dish disappointed. I had a mushroom risotto and Matt got to enjoy fresh reef fish that had been caught that day. We also ordered a variety of side dishes and all were amazing (get the gnocchi)! The sommelier has some great recommendations for wine pairings as well. He didn’t need much direction and didn’t need to ask many questions, just nailed it with his first recommendation! There were also some of the most unique wines I’d ever seen on a menu!
The next restaurant was the main bar called Compass Pool Bar. We ate here for lunch one day. They served American cuisine (for the most part) and both the pizza and our panini were delicious. I fully expected this meal to be only so so. After all, we live in the city of Chicago which is known for its pizza and we were at a “pool bar”. However, we were both impressed with how flavorful everything was. There was a full bar and hookah lounge here as well. Every Monday, they have a cocktail party for the guests and hotel staff which I thought was a fun idea! The third restaurant was Ba’theli which we didn’t get to try and offered Maldivian fare. It’s the only authentic Maldivian restaurant in the Maldives apparently! We were so bummed we didn’t get a chance to eat there but since the food was so good elsewhere we weren’t too upset! If that isn’t enough options for you, there is also 24 hour room service!

Maldives Resort Review: Milaidhoo – What to do.
On the island, the main thing to do is relax in the sun. If you want more activity you could rent snorkeling equipment or arrange to go scuba diving. There were also daily activities included in our stay like dolphin tours! The island was pretty small – you could walk around it in 10 minutes so there wasn’t anything else except for the resort on it. This is very common in the Maldives – I don’t know of a resort/island where this isn’t the case. So, it’s definitely a haven for relaxation and you don’t have to worry about getting around once you’re at your resort. Just an easy walk to wherever you want to go!
We also opted to get a couples massage during our stay. We headed over to the spa and entered through one of the cutest blue doors. Talk about photo opp! The spa consisted of 4 over water huts with the lobby being on land. One hut was a relaxation room where we sat as they were preparing the hut we would get our massage in. That room overlooked the ocean and we got to sit and enjoy that as they gave us a foot massage! Then, they moved us to the massage tables in the room!
Let me tell you, my masseuse was one of the best I’ve ever had. I’m notorious for carrying all my stress in my upper back (Matt is always telling me I have knots there). After my massage I felt 200% better. She devoted a ton of time to working all the knots out and still managed to fit a full body massage in! The skill was just impeccable. Matt even fell asleep on the table! I felt so relaxed afterward. And I rarely can say that!
One of my favorite parts of the resort was the walk to and from the room. The row of over water huts made for such a beautiful site. The water off the sides was also so blue and clear. We saw sting rays and tons of species of fish every time we would go somewhere. You didn’t even need to snorkel to see them if you didn’t want to! There were also these traditional Maldivian swings by the lobby.
In addition to the private pools, there was also a pool at the main bar. It was a beautiful spot to hang out in and there was a deck over the edge to sit on. The property in general was just so stunning! Every time we walked a few steps, Matt would have to turn around and wait for me to finish snapping photos of everything from the blue water to hibiscus flowers!
Overall, our stay at Milaidhoo was a dream. When people think about going to the Maldives, they think about staying in a place like Milaidhoo. Simply put, it was the best. The best service, the most beautiful property, and one of our favorite experiences out of all our travel!
