The Gap of Dunloe was our favorite part of Ireland! Both Matt and I walked away completely amazed. The landscape totally stole both of our hearts and set the bar so high for all of the other places we visited. As I shared last week, Ashford Castle was a close second but honestly it’s so hard to choose!
We left our hotel in Kilkenny early in the morning to head into the Gap of Dunloe. I’m so glad we got there before the rush because it was so peaceful! There were carriages waiting to take you on a personal tour. Not ones for guided tours, we opted to go into the park by ourselves and just explore. We wandered through the winding road with no real agenda which was a first for us. Usually, I have everything planned down to the minute so it was refreshing to just meander!
Sheep were all over the mountains! If you were watching on snapchat (@jennacolgrove), you could hear some of them bah-ing very loudly. Matt was endlessly amused by it every single time! Matt’s amusement obviously made me laugh too – you definitely don’t hear these sounds in Los Angeles!
We stopped at this bridge to take a few photos and the morning light was just incredible. The sun was hitting the green hills just right, creating this beautifully yellow glow! For lack of a better word, the Gap of Dunloe was just magical.
You can see some of the sheep in this shot! They were just roaming the roads doing their own thing. We noticed that the owners seemed to tag the animals to keep track of them which is why there is purple on the one above!
Ireland was all about layering for me! I felt like this green striped tee was the perfect piece for a day of exploring. I’m still obsessed with the shade of green. It was so easy to layer this white cardigan over. I feel like I get a new white cardigan every season. I get so much wear out of them – so easy to grab on your way out the door!
After the Gap of Dunloe, we headed to Dingle Peninsula. I think I giggled at the name at least 10 times on the trip! We pulled off the road randomly at Inch Beach where the photo above was taken. The naming of the beach had to be ironic. It was the widest beach either of us had ever seen!
It was super windy (which you can probably tell) but the scene was too pretty to pass up! Thank goodness I was wearing these Hunter boots though – Matt ended up getting sand all over his Nikes. Matt’s Nikes are basically his life. It seems weird to wear boots on a beach, at least as a California girl, but they were the perfect footwear choice for this stop!
Matt and I had lunch in Dingle before heading to the Cliffs of Moher. We weren’t planning to see the cliffs until the next day but a rain storm was coming so we switched around our itinerary. Dingle was a super small town tucked away on the peninsula. We grabbed some ice cream from the famous Murphy’s (there is also a location in Dublin). It’s handmade in Dingle which was so neat! Definitely felt like a small town shop.
We also walked around snapping photos of just about every building. They were all so colorful and cute!
We got to the Cliffs of Moher about 45 minutes before it started to rain. I was so glad we made it in time to enjoy it! The cliffs were so high up and it looked extra beautiful with the stormy skies above. As you know, I love the color grey so this might have had something to do with it. I threw on this blush pullover which is currently on sale to stay a little warmer as we got closer to evening!
On our walk out, it started to pour so Matt and I made a break for the car. Our efforts were fruitless because we ended up getting completely drenched. We cranked up the heat and headed back to our hotel for the night. It was a day full of truly amazing views!
