In a word, our stay at Zero George was perfect. I talked about our trip to Charleston last week and kicked off a new travel series called A Weekend In here on the blog (which I’m really excited about!). But part of what made our time in Charleston so amazing was our hotel.
If your looking for what to see around the city, check out the travel guide. But for more details on this quaint little hotel, keep reading!
The Welcome
We got out of our Uber on Friday night outside of Zero George and immediately I knew we had made the right choice. We were welcomed with champagne and offered a tour of the property (optional). Shortly thereafter, we were escorted to our room on the second floor. As someone who has watched many episodes of Fixer Upper, the design of the room would have made Joanna proud! From the built-in closet to the marble shower, everything was gorgeous.
The Food
Not ready to venture out on Friday night, we opted to stay at the hotel for dinner. We weren’t too hungry because we’d eaten lunch late. We sat out on the veranda and ordered a few beverages. Matt had the lobster rolls and I ordered a cheese plate (which I had again Sunday night)! The cheese plate was gorgeous! It reminded me I need to make more of these when we entertain at home. It had 3 types of cheeses with dried fruits, spiced nuts, fresh local honey, and crispy bread. Delicious.

Breakfast was included in our stay so we are at the hotel for one breakfast which I mentioned last week. It was a buffet but a classy one if you know what I mean. There were just enough options to execute everything really well. There’s only one kitchen on the property because it is on the smaller side so they had a smaller selection but everything was done really well. The biscuits were to die for and came in 3 flavors: cinnamon sugar, regular, and ham and cheddar. I left South Carolina craving those cinnamon sugar biscuits which should tell you how amazing they were. They also had fresh berries which are so rare to find at a buffet.
We didn’t have a chance to eat dinner at the hotel (see this post for more details on where we ate) but I can only imagine the experience was amazing! I believe it was a tasting menu so if you’re headed to Charleston to celebrate something special (birthday, anniversary, etc.), do it here. We saw a couple of things being prepared in the kitchen and they looked amazing.

The Property
The property was picture perfect every direction you looked. From the veranda overlooking the courtyard, to the porches on every floor, to beautifully deco-ed front building. Matt and I could easily have sat and enjoyed the property for a few more days! We camped out Sunday night on the couch on the main veranda and worked over a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. There was a huge rainstorm rolling in and it was the perfect way to endure the weather.

Apparently, the property had been purchased by a husband and wife team with the purpose of turning it into a hotel. They bought up a few homes close to each other and revamped them, turning it into what is Zero George today.
The Amenities
Everything about Zero George said attainable luxury. Meaning, it was not so luxurious that you feel like you don’t even want to go in for fear of making a fool of yourself. But rather, like you’ve been invited into someone’s really lovely home. From the welcome champagne to the chocolates (with fresh dried cranberries) left during turndown service, the quality was impeccable. They also left bottles of water for us which were much appreciated given the heat (Matt and I drink a ton of water)!
They also had bicycles that we were able to borrow to bike around town throughout the weekend. They were first come first serve but if you knew you needed them at a specific time, you could reserve them! Around back, there was a little fire pit area too – we didn’t need it since it was already pretty hot but I can imagine in winter that would come in handy!
