While fall’s cool weather makes me terrified of the winter ahead, it also is a little romantic too. Who wouldn’t want to cozy up on the couch and binge watch The Office on Netflix? Matt and I have been re-watching the series lately, as well as baseball of course. But what if you want to get outside? Here are 5 fall date night ideas to try for today’s Friday Five!
1. Apple picking.
So we totally missed the boat on this one this year but I think it’s just the cutest activity ever. It’s definitely going in my Gmail calendar for 2018 already. Apple picking is an out-of-the-box day date option that is sure to be ultra playful as you walk around grabbing apples off trees. The photos are so adorable (#priorities) and you get to leave with a ton of apples. Break out your favorite boots (maybe even for the first time) and embrace all the fall fashion.
2. Carve pumpkins.
I feel like sometimes as adults, we forget the fun activities that we did when we were younger. One of those is carving your favorite face/symbol/pattern/whatever into the side of a pumpkin. If it’s any indication of how nerdy I am, I carved a pi sign into my pumpkin one year. Pumpkin pi, get it? Anyway, my favorite part was roasting the pumpkin seeds in the oven after. While your hands will definitely be disgusting by the end of it, live a little. Get a little messy. Invite your besties over for a pumpkin carving soirée. Break out the pumpkin flavored snacks (Trader Joe’s is killing it lately with those) and make it a low key event to get yourself prepped for Halloween. Just make sure your bar cart is fully stocked with pumpkin beverages!
3. Haunted House.
If you’re looking for an excuse to find yourself in the arms of your man for a solid hour, bingo. This is it. Of course, this activity isn’t for everyone. If you’re truly terrified by haunted houses, you might not want to put yourself through this trauma or you should find one that isn’t overly scary. Preferably one for children. However, for the thrill seekers, this activity is perfect for you. Hold your guy’s hand a little tighter as you walk into the unknown and see what lies ahead!
On a side note, I distinctly remember Matt and our friends conning me into an all to realistic haunted house back in LA. It was one of those where the experience is supposed to be like a story so actors are prompting you through the whole thing. It. Was. Terrifying. I know they’re just regular people but it was so freaking realistic and I did NOT enjoy it. I was clinging to Matt for dear life for the entire 90 minute experience. He was so good talking me through it and protecting me from these horrifying characters that it brought us a little closer at the end. Ever since, he asks me if we can go to a haunted house every year. Of course I respond with a firm no and explain my PTSD from the last one which he finds hilarious…
4. Go to a game.
You have quite a few sports to choose from at this time of year. The World Series is either coming up or already here. Football is in full swing – both college and professional. Basketball just started. Pick a favorite and enjoy listening to your man get in his zone and explain all the details to you during the game. I love going to athletic events for this exact reason.
Tomorrow we are headed to the USC vs. ND game and I couldn’t be more excited. For those that are new here, I went to USC and this rivalry is a major one. Plus college tailgating is the best. So send me all the good vibes!
5. Walk the lakeshore.
This one is specific to Chicago or any city with a body of water in it. But a walk along the water can be ultra romantic. With no agenda, you can take the walk at your own pace (literally) and just enjoy each other’s presence. Grab a coffee or a hot cocoa on a cool day and see where you end up. And if you’re in Chicago, try to enjoy the view before it’s covered in ice and snow! Maybe you’ll discover my 5 favorite things about Chicago.
Have you tried any of these date night ideas so far this fall? Are there any you plan to try?
