With wedding season ahead, I wanted to round up some of my favorite dresses to wear as a guest. Matt and I have been on the wedding tour for the last few summers. As professional wedding guests, I know how stressful it can be to find something to wear to every event. Bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and then the main event! That is a lot of dresses for a gal to find. So today, I’m focusing on what to wear to different types of weddings!
And sorry for posting this on a Saturday! I had to get yesterday’s post up and didn’t want to double post. I had the day off from work and while I had every intention of getting a ton of stuff done, I mostly just watched Homeland. Oops!
Nowadays, it seems like you can wear almost anything to the ceremony and the reception. I feel like everyone cares a lot less about rules. However, if you’re a traditional girl, these categories should help you brainstorm ideas. Every single one of them could be paired with white or black heels (here are a bunch of options under $100). If you’re daring, throw in a pop of color or a vibrant print!
1. Perfect for a Garden Party.
Scrolling through the posts on my blog lately, you’d think I was planning for a garden wedding every weekend of summer. I’m no stranger to floral prints lately (two of my favorites here and here). All of these dresses are perfect for any kind of wedding, honestly. However, especially for outdoor weddings with lush scenery! You can never go wrong with flowers. Plus, the print hides all the unflattering parts!
2. Black Tie Affairs.
Most of the weddings I’ve been too have been on the more casual side but I’ve had a lot of requests for formal weddings! I usually try to select fabrics that look a little more high-end and/or stick with black. This velvet charcoal dress is such a stunner and could go with any pair of black heels. Maybe with an ankle strap?
3. Winery Weddings.
With winery weddings on the rise, it’s sometimes tough to know how to dress for them. I love to wear light materials because it’s inevitably going to get hot. I also tend to gravitate toward shorter dresses because there’s nothing worse than dragging your dress through the dirt. This strappy maxi in blush and this navy off the shoulder are really easy picks for me.
4. Beachy or Bohemian.
Before getting married, I wanted both a beach and a bohemian wedding. While I didn’t end up having either (see photos from our wedding here), I still love wearing the flowy styles all through spring and summer. Whether just heading out for brunch or going on vacation, they’re so comfortable and beautiful. Totally twirl worthy. This pale blue ruffled maxi could also double as a bridesmaid’s dress and this printed off the shoulder just screams vacation in Mexico!
5. The Under $50 Dress.
Lastly, the affordable dress. Each of these dresses can be paired with items that you already have in your closet. They can also be worn to other events when dressed down a little with a pair of wedges. If you have a summer full of weddings, it can be taxing to find something different to wear for each one for the budget. These dresses are great options for those looking to save money. I love this coral shift dress (could also pair it with a blazer for work) and this flowy sage-blue midi.
I hope that helps! What weddings do you have coming up this summer? Anything you’re excited for?
I love how flattering this dress is! For more angles of this dress, see the full post here. It runs a little large so if you’re in between sizes, size down.
How dreamy is this blush ruffle midi? It would be so perfect for a spring wedding with the long sleeves!
I know I’m wearing this on the beach but with a pair of cute heels, this watercolor maxi could be perfect for a summer wedding! I love the flowy skirt and the tie waist.
This $75 blush dress from my last post is stunning! These lace sleeves are the perfect detail

I love that yellow dress and the mauve wrap dress! I have been eyeing them, but didn’t purchase because I was curious about what they looked like on. I think it’s time to buy :)
