Wedges are like joggers. When you first see them, you try to decide if they’re cute or not. There’s a lot of grey area there. In the world of emojis, they’d get a one eyebrow raise face. Then, you see them styled cute on someone and you’re like “okay, maybe”. Say you’re bold enough to go try them on. Then you realize you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for height and you’re sold! HELL. YES.
I imagine this is also the thought process when crazy old ladies decide that wearing crocs is a good idea. Mom, please stop wearing crocs. And sorry for calling you out! However, the idea of wedges is a really good one. Here’s the disclaimer though: it depends on the wedge.
Truth be told, I used to hate wedges. Going through sorority rush I looked at our recruitment team like “are you serious?” when we were instructed to wear wedges for one of the days. As of late, wedges have come a really long way though in terms of cuteness. I definitely have my favorite brands that continue to deliver year after year. Before we dive in, here is this week’s recap of posts including a pretty amazing giveaway!
- Lavender Ruffle Lace Tank + White Pleated Skirt
- 10 Things You Need From the Sephora Sale
- $500 Target Giveaway and a Flamingo Skirt
- Floral Shimmer Shift Dress
My top wedges picks are below!
1. The Formosa wedges. The block heel version of these sold out last year in the blink of an eye. When I saw this wedge version, I swooned! I love the wood heel because it makes them look a lot more expensive than they really are.
2. The twist knot espadrilles. Truth be told, the other Marc Fisher wedges everyone is wearing aren’t my fav. Call me crazy. However, these particular Marc Fisher are my absolute favorites. They are so comfortable and the little bow makes them so feminine. Somehow, the lack of an ankle strap makes them a lot less… clunky. I wore these all around Asheville when we visited back in February!
3. Wrap around ankle wedges. I just purchased these in the Shopbop sale. I haven’t worn them yet but for some reason was drawn to the pale blush color and the tie at the ankle. I love that there’s a peep toe – feels more stylish that way. There’s also a ton of height. Even though I’m 5’8″, I never pass up an opportunity for a few more inches! Luckily, Matt is still taller! I linked to a BUNCH of other wrap around ankle wedges in the widget above but I’m also wearing these suede espadrilles in the photo with the yellow dress!
4. Del Sol wedges. The lace cut detail on these makes these ones my favorite to make a statement. That said, it’s not the kind of statement you can’t make everywhere. Meaning, they’re still basic enough to wear to every occasion. I personally love the blush pink – they would be so cute with a flowy floral dress or even white skinny jeans. They also come in white though if blush isn’t your thing.
5. Braided leather wedge. These are my “splurge” pick. I love a deal more than any one. With a day job in finance, it’s hard not to. But let me tell you a story. 5 years ago, Matt and I had just met. When visiting him in Chicago, we went shopping at Bloomingdales where I found the perfect Burberry wedges. As you can imagine, they weren’t cheap. I still wear those wedges now. There’s something to be said for shoes that are so well crafted you can do that.
Here’s the math. They were around $500 when I first got them. The average wedge is about $120 and lasts a year or two depending on where you live. Being that I’m from LA, mine lasted on the shorter side. So, I would have spent $620 buying new wedges every year. Yet my Burberry ones still look good as new! So the overall investment is much better. And I will definitely be breaking them out this summer!
Unrelated to wedges, Matt and I went to a bourbon tasting last night at Sepia in the West Loop hosted by VisitLex. I had never had bourbon before and truth be told, I’m not sure I’ll be ordering a glass any time soon. It burns! So much burning. We sat across from a lovely couple who made me feel a little better by telling me it’s an acquired taste. I’m going to take my time acquiring that. For now, I’ll stick to my Ketel One and water.
However, it was so fun to learn about Buffalo Trace’s distillery. It seems like there is a ton of culture there down in Lexington. So much so that I turned to Matt and asked if he’d want to make a trip down there this summer. He told me he’d rather go to Boston (for baseball). Figures. Every time I have a fun idea (or at least one I think is fun), he’s thinking about sports! Exploring more of the south is on my list of to-dos now that we live in the Midwest. The flights are a lot shorter than from LA! Do you have any favorite spots to go?

So many cute wedges! I also have a pair of Burberry wedges that I’ve had for about 4 years now. Quality is definitely worth the investment. If you come to Boston, let me know!

I was the biggest wedges’ fan, and then I met my boyfriend & he’s just not the biggest fan of them so I went for more flats (since they’re so comfy) and I get heels from time to time but I think I’m going to buy a few pairs. It’s weird, because while I love them on others, I just don’t know if I’d like them on me anymore! xx
