How many of you have been forced to wear an ugly bridesmaid dress? You know what I’m talking about. The dress you try on at one of those bridal boutiques that you know you won’t be able to wear ever again. You reason with yourself by saying maybe you can wear it to another wedding. One where none of the guests at this wedding will be? Good luck. Most friend groups overlap. Of course, you can’t say anything to the bride. It takes all of your might to make sure your face isn’t saying what you’re thinking. Let alone feign enthusiasm. If you can do that though, you’re a better person than I am! I have RBF. It’s real, y’all. This is reason for today’s post in my A Dress A Day series!
Thank god for the trend of mis-matching dresses. Whatever bridesmaid convinced her friend to let them all pick out their own dresses is a genius. A total genius. Wear a dress that you love and the bride loves? Definitely wear it again? Choose your own budget? That is what you call a win-win-win. After years of being on the wedding tour (where your entire summer is spent traveling to weddings), I’ve seen a lot of questionable bridesmaid dress choices. No gal wants to wince when the bride “finally” gets her photos back from her photographer. Log into Facebook and find 10 rather unsightly pictures of you at various locations down the aisle? Hard pass. That’s what you call a bridesmaids’ worst nightmare.
Now, I wasn’t blessed with a perfect figure. So I deeply appreciate the opportunity to pick out my own dress as I’m sure most girls do. I know what works for my body type. Stick me in a shift dress and these Shakira hips are like a baby trying to enter this world. Lots of ripping. Got a visual? But seriously, we’re all different. There is one style of dress that I find to be almost universally flattering though (there is hope!). It’s the wrap dress. Whether you have a waist or not, it gives you one. Wide hips can be hidden beneath them. It creates the illusion of an hourglass figure so it’s also perfect if you have a boxy shape.
This wrap dress is one of my favorite recommendations for wedding season. Whether you’re a bridesmaid and have been tasked with finding a baby blue dress or a bride planning her wedding, this dress passes all the tests. It also comes in 5 other colors here including a blush pink and a mint! So gorgeous. With my bridesmaid duties out of the way this year, I’ve found myself almost wishing I had another wedding coming up! Unfortunately, most of my friends are married and all of Matt’s are very, very single. If you’re new to the Show Me Your Mumu, definitely check it out for summer. I wore a palm print dress by this brand and picked up a few of these pieces for our next vacation! There are some really great sales too plus you can get all of these with Amazon Prime! Really whimsical and flattering cuts.
PS. I’ve been wearing these white Tom Ford sunglasses so much for spring and summer! White really freshens/brightens up every look. They pair perfectly with white sandals and white accessories. I just found them on sale for almost a third of their original price!!
PPS. Can you tell how windy it is in these photos by my hair frizz? I felt like I was caught in a wind tunnel! In hindsight, this post might have been funnier had I included the photos where my skirt is all jacked up too…
As a reminder, you can see all of the dresses from this series here! Or there’s a list below!
