Y’all overwhelmingly wanted to see my DIY closet on Instagram today! It isn’t the most pretty – probably not Pinterest worthy. However, it’s practical and a really great solution for anyone who is still living that apartment life and/or either isn’t allowed to custom build a beautiful closet or doesn’t want to invest much because they’re living in a place temporarily. It took about a day for Matt and his dad to do this to 2 closets in our apartment (we also did this to the smaller one in the guest bedroom). The items we bought are below but you’ll also need fro your DIY closet:
- a stud finder
- a power drill
- a saw or a better way to cut the metal tubes to the size you need. This was the most time consuming part because we only had a hand saw. This is also optional if you’re okay using what comes in the closet building set I linked below.
- an iron for the melamine on the edge of the shelves (optional)
I also couldn’t find the MDF board in white (it may have also been a melamine board, we just looked through the store) that I mentioned to create the shelves. We went to Home Depot and had them cut a giant board to the dimensions of the space where we were trying to create the shoe shelves.
Here’s a quick post so you can refer back to it and use it as a shopping list!
I hope this DIY closet tutorial helps for now!! Email me if you have any questions!
