Plaid Pajamas | Over the Knee Socks | Knit Throw Blanket | Burgundy Pom Pillow | Fur Pillow | Faux Shearling Pillow | Fairy Lights
If there’s anything I’ve learned from moving to the Midwest, it’s that having a cozy home is important. Maybe it’s not the move. Maybe it’s just wanting to have a cute home! There’s nothing like snuggling up on the couch and being so comfortable that you could fall asleep right there. With winter in full force, there is no better time to spend a little time focusing on where you’ll be spending a little more time the next few months: indoors! Here are my tips for how to decorate a cozy home!
The biggest compliment I’ve ever gotten is that our apartment looks like something out of Pinterest (or something to that effect). We’ve had Matt’s friends come over and say they felt like they just jumped into Pinterest. I’ve had girlfriends from Southern California visit and say it’s just too perfect. I’ve had my mother-in-law say that my next job will be redecorating her home. I’m not trying to brag. I want to help! I’m no professional, but I do have a few tips and tricks that I feel really make a difference. Especially when it comes to creating a warm and inviting space!
How to Decorate Your Cozy Home: Pillows.
Today, I took a stab at a mini refresh of our living room to make it more cozy. Since you can’t exactly buy a new couch every couple months, the easiest way to do this is through pillows. They are the easiest and most affordable way to give your space a face lift! Even though Matt might complain that I have too many pillows on the couch, I love the way they look. From chatting with you guys on Instagram, it seems like this might just be a guy thing.
If your space seems a little bare, add a few more pillows. Just don’t add too many. I typically like to add 3 maximum to every corner of our sectional. I also like to mix them up so that all the pillows don’t match. My favorite addition this winter was this burgundy pillow with poms on the corners for a subtle pop of color. It’s by UGG which I usually think of as being a shoe brand but I was so surprised at how many amazing home items there were at Nordstrom!
Here are some of my favorite pillows right now – most of them come in different colors so be sure to click through if you see one you might like!

How to Decorate Your Cozy Home: Texture.
When I designed our master bedroom and our guest bedroom, I tried so hard to find a way to describe my style. I couldn’t. There wasn’t one type of decor that fit. Modern, bohemian, glamorous – none of those captured the way I like to decorate my home. Finally, I realized my style was best describe as “textural”. That just means I like to incorporate a lot of different textures into my home. Knits, fuzzy blankets, and some subtle prints are the foundation for my home. Every now and then, I love to throw in a pop of color.
How to Decorate Your Cozy Home: Throw Blankets.
You can never have too many throw blankets. Somehow, there always seems to be a shortage. Whenever we are hosting a movie night or some other event where we’re all curled up on the couch, we have to unearth all the blankets. We definitely have our favorites (the softest ones). My goal this year has been to replace the older ones that might not be as cozy with new ones that also make our list of favorites. I think that after adding this knit pom blanket to our collection, I’ve got the perfect collection and combination of textures in our living room. This one also comes in 4 colors so you should be able to find one that matches your decor! I also love the poms because they add – you guessed it – even more texture to our cozy little space. Here are some of my favorites that I’m loving lately!

How to Decorate Your Cozy Home: Stylish Storage.
Your living room or bedroom storage doesn’t have to be boring! Make it work to bring together your space! If you’re looking for a chic way to store your blankets, my favorite way to do this is with a basket. I saw this knit basket at Nordstrom and just about died. It’s so gorgeous! This is definitely one of those pieces that you can buy now and keep for years. No matter what your color scheme is or how your style changes, it will always match! I only found one basket that I liked – I saw this one first and couldn’t find any others that even came close in cuteness!
How to Decorate Your Cozy Home: Rugs.
Rugs have to be some of the most expensive items ever. So, I always buy neutrals (but really, are you surprised?). That way, when I want to swap out our decor or do a refresh, the rug still matches. I think one of my favorite rugs is the one from our master bedroom. Since I know that’s quite an investment, I’d recommend starting with a smaller area rug. Place it off to the side or under one of the corners of your furniture to hold it down. I use something like this white fur rug in front of our floor length mirror to create a cohesive little area. Floor mirrors can sometimes look a little awkward if you don’t place a few more things around them. Add this rug and maybe that knit basket to make it a cozy little space!
How to Decorate Your Cozy Home: Cozy Loungewear.
Okay, so this isn’t exactly something that is in your living room permanently but it’s just as important! If you’re going to be lounging, you want to be in something lounge-worth! Whether you’re wearing pajamas or joggers, you want them to be comfortable! Again, I never really thought of UGG for more than boots (and I swear by their boots as a cold weather essential). However, I bought a pair of their Clementine sweatpants back in October and was so impressed by the fit and quality. Seriously. I always have trouble finding sweatpants that are flattering (especially joggers). Either that or they fall apart/loose shape after just one wash. These have held up so well over the last 2 months though!
Last week, I got this plaid pajama set and I really like how they fit. I get so hot when I sleep that I love the shorts – they are pretty short (just a warning) but I like that because it keeps me cool! They have a bunch of other adorable (soft) pajama sets too right now. Here are my favorite pajamas and loungewear. I’ve found they run true to size!

I also love all of UGG’s socks! Mine are now sold out but I actually like these cable knit socks with the poms better! I stocked up on a bunch of these socks to wear under my boots this year. They’re not uncomfortably thick but they do provide a lot of warmth which means that your boots will still fit and you’ll stay warm.
