Can you tell how freezing I am in these photos? Matt (AKA my Instagram Husband) always has some pretty interesting commentary during our shoots. Sometimes it makes me laugh and other times I am just taken aback. Sometimes he delivers some insightful feedback and other times he comments on something that is painstakingly obvious. Let me set the stage for this shoot…

So, we’re here in Chicago. It’s 2 days after a snowstorm and our goal to take photos with the new GiGi New York Hannah bag (seen here in Monday’s post and here on their homepage)! I’m wearing this blue shirtdress which is so cute for spring. However, it’s clearly not spring in this city or anywhere within 1,000 miles of this arctic tundra. So, we walk over to the riverwalk to find some semblance of life. Nothing. Just a bunch of lifeless branches and dead sticks. Wonderful.

I’m wearing old faux fur boots and a giant coat over this dress on this quest for a location. I look ridiculous but warmth is everything right now. I mean, people are staring. Oh, and I’m carrying flowers. Flowers that died before we even make it home. They tried this midwest weather and gave up on life.

We finally find a spot that doesn’t look like the end of the world or have graffiti on it. Seriously did not even know graffitiing was a thing anymore. That was so Y2K (it was Y2K night at the Bulls game last week so I have that in my head). Matt tests the lighting and gets the camera set up. I’m still standing in my well worn faux Uggs (Matt calls them fUGGly because he things Uggs are hideous) and the puffiest coat ever. He’s ready. Time to switch shoes and remove the jacket! It starts to drizzle and there is a dirty snow pile to the right of this staircase.

We’re a few photos in and Matt asks “why are your fists clenched like that?” I can’t even. I. Can’t. Even. I’m wearing this light dress, bare legged while Matt is fully layered up and it’s below 30 degrees. It’s literally freezing. Let me list out all the things he’s wearing for perspective: thermal leggings, sweatpants, Under Armor top, long sleeve shirt, hoodie, (men’s) giant puffer coat, neon Nike yellow gloves (can’t miss him in those!), a thick beanie, thick socks, and waterproof boots. That list took THREE lines of text and he’s asking me why I look cold? Is here serious?

Needless to say, this was one of those moments where he provides some commentary that he probably didn’t think through all the way. Some might call this word vomit. Anyway, that was what this shoot was like. Hope you enjoyed getting a little sneak peek of our behind the scenes! I definitely cannot wait for warmer weather. Winter has never felt longer since the move!

  12. HAHAH loved hearing the BTS! I hear ya, NYC is still trying to figure out what it’s doing with itself haha yesterday was 60 and today is 35 and raining! Ugh!

  16. I think your site might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your blog in Opera, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, very good blog!
