Fall is like a giant puzzle. A puzzle of layers on layers. After a few months of warm weather, it always feels like I’m starting out with training wheels, trying to remember which top fits under this jacket or what dress pairs with this length cardigan. So in the spirit of layering, I’ve rounded up my favorite sweaters and who should buy them in today’s post!

Someone asked me on Instagram last week what my favorite cardigan was. It definitely made me pause to think because I hadn’t talked about them yet! I also believe in having a well balanced collection (a high-low mix of various colors). Cardigans can often feel extremely matronly – like a crazy cat lady. I personally am not ready for that kind of vibe… yet. They bunch, they stretch, and they sometimes offer no shape to that feminine figure. If you’ve got broad shoulders, a cardigan has the potential to make you look like that linebacker on your fantasy football team. Like this chunky knit one that I’ve seen about 50 blogger babes fawning over. It did not work on me at all! With that in mind, scroll through my top picks below for my comments!

This dress I’m wearing sold out but I found a few other burgundy dresses that would be equally great for layering! And they’re all under $50! This lace slipdress has a really similar cut and I love the draping on this burgundy piece! Burgundy is one of my favorite colors for fall because it pairs so well with beige and brown. Any of these dresses would be perfect with boots – especially over the knee boots (these are my favorites) or riding boots!

We’ve had the “summer to end all summers” in Vancouver this year, dear Jenna…so it’s been much too hot to even think about cardigans until now. But I totally agree that a favourite cardi layered over a pretty little slip dress might be the easiest way to ease into autumn…with bonus points for adding some edge with ankle boots!! :)

Love that pretty slipdress on you! I have a similar cardigan that I got last year from Old Navy and I wear it alllll the time. It’s just such a good color. I’m with ya babe… not quite ready for sweaters just yet! It’s still so wildly hot here in Miami.
