I’m just about the worst when it comes to being told I can’t do something. Whether I’m not allowed or the person just doesn’t believe it’s physically possible, the only thing I want to do is the very thing they said I can’t. Take the color grey for example. My mother always steered me away from greys and neutral as a kid because… let’s face it I was pale (this hasn’t changed). As an adult, this has manifested into an obsession with wearing anything grey like Wednesday’s tulle skirt. Bags, jewelry, whatever – if it comes it grey, I want it and a quick scan over my Instagram will confirm that.
Perhaps I like a challenge or perhaps I really just like proving people wrong. I’ve got a hunch it’s a little of both. You know what else is challenging? Hanging up this grey cutout top. While it may take me an extra minute or two to identify exactly which strap should be hanging where on a hanger, it’s totally worth it once it’s on. Ruching in all the right ways makes it extremely flattering and versatile – you can pair it with pants, shorts, skirts, anything.
While today’s head to toe neutral look might seem better suited for winter, it was the perfect look for a day spent exploring the Queen Elizabeth gardens when we were in Vancouver a few weekends ago. Not only because it’s chic but because it really pops against all of the greenery (making for awesome photos). After saying that, I realize we found the only non-green place to take these photos though. Whatever. The overall tone of the photo is grey and now you know how much I like proving people wrong! Head to toe to backdrop neutral.

As much as I love fun, bright colours, sometimes, you just can’t beat a great neutral outfit. I love all of these soft tones together.
