I’ll be the first to admit that I’m terrible when it comes to beauty maintenance. Absolutely terrible. Don’t get me wrong. I love beauty products and am a slave to my skincare routine. However, if I can’t do something at home on my own, it’s not for me. My brief stint with eyelash extensions was well, brief. I’m SO grateful to the balayage trend for making your absence from the salon a little less noticeable. Don’t judge. I just like being self sufficient!
Since my summers are spent inside an office instead of on the beach, my hair has gotten darker over the years. I had a pretty horrific dye experience earlier this year after I attempted to combat this. I literally walked out of the salon with blue hair. I felt so ugly I didn’t wear my hair down for weeks. I kept it up in a bun, trying to erase the memory of the breakage and compromised texture. Lesson learned: find an awesome colorist and stay loyal.
My hair stylist and I are now on a texting basis and I have to say, I love it. For you LA girls, I go to Andrea at the Doves Salon. She’s amazing and won’t take your hair beyond where it should go. She’s also been helping me get my hair back to feeling like real hair. We are doing a ton of things – hair masks, clarifying shampoos, keratin treatments, etc. – to keep my hair healthy and in a place where I don’t mind it. It’s still a long road back to where it was but I’m definitely seeing progress and that’s encouraging.
Part of our plan is to not over-process. No unnecessary highlights. While I don’t love when my dark blonde roots start to show, I know that it’s for the best in the long run! I’m not one to settle for mediocrity so today I’m sharing my secret for upkeep during visits. It’s Back 2 Blonde! This product instantly makes my roots turn back to blonde (hence the name). You can see below for the before picture. It’s temporary so there’s no permanent damage either. For reference, I’m using the Light Blonde shade. It’s really affordable compared to a day at the salon too and there is even a rebate offer via Ibotta right now!
Since y’all already know I don’t like being dependent on anything, I love that I can just wash out the product with shampoo. Right in my own home. It’s low maintenance which means it’s perfect for my lifestyle!

I have been a huge fan of the balayage and ombre for years, because I just can never seem to get to the salon. Root spray is my savior. Great post Jenna!
