Before my tan wears off, I wanted to review our stay at Grand Velas Los Cabos in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Matt and I stayed there last weekend to escape the Chicago cold and it was amazing! Grand Velas is one of my favorite resort brands (I stayed at Riviera Maya last summer) and here is why!
Getting to Grand Velas Los Cabos.
From most major cities, you can find a nonstop flight to Cabo San Lucas. One tip we learned from our driver was to search for flights at 1AM – 3AM in the morning. Apparently they are half the price! From Chicago, it was only a 4.5 hour flight which wasn’t much further than Cancun. Grand Velas is a 30 minute car ride from the airport so it’s pretty easy. We used the car service called Blue Dreams and they were incredible. Extremely professional, on time, and very nice.
Intro to Grand Velas.
Grand Velas is a luxury all-inclusive resort brand with 5 locations. After staying at 2 of the locations, I would 100% recommend staying at a Grand Velas property if you get the chance. It’s by far one of the best all-inclusive resorts I’ve ever been to. It has all the luxury you would expect – every amenity is so well thought through.
Grand Velas Los Cabos property.
Grand Velas is situated on its own private beach on Baja Mexico’s peninsula. There are 304 suites and every single one of them has an ocean view! I thought that was such a great feature! The resort also won the AAA Five Diamond Award – that is the top level honor a resort can receive for demonstrating the ultimate luxury. Of the Los Cabos all-inclusive resorts, it’s one of the best out there. You have access to 24 hour room service and a 24 hour personalized concierge!
There are 3 pools on the property (see below) and the one closest to the ocean is adults only. There are also 2 bars by the pool but with a staff ratio of 3:1, you can rest assured you won’t ever be waiting too long for a drink. If you’re more of a toes in the sand girl, there are cabanas and lounge chairs set up on the beach as well.
Other amenities at the resort include a fitness center, a teen club (with an Xbox!), and a spa with 16 treatment rooms and hydrotherapy! There is also a convention center for large companies to conduct business and a large outdoor space to host large dinners. If you’re looking to get married, check out Grand Velas! They hosted a group of wedding planners while we were there so we got to see some of the beautiful set ups they create at Grand Velas. It was so pretty that I asked Matt if he would let me renew our vows yet!
Where to eat at Grand Velas Los Cabos.
When it comes to food, your palette will not be disappointed at Grand Velas Los Cabos. They have Mexico’s first 2 star Michelin Chef! Matt and I took full advantage of the room service for breakfast 2 of the 3 days. They have all your standard options but also were able to bring you anything else you wanted! During the day, we ate by the pool because we wanted to stay in the sun. They had so many food options and again could bring you anything you asked for. I ordered mushroom tacos which weren’t on the menu and they were delicious!
Azul.
We ate lunch here one day and breakfast here another. Azul is an international buffet available to eat at for every meal. It was definitely more casual but the food options were endless and it was so cute!
Velas 10.
We had dinner here on our first night and sat out on the patio overlooking the ocean. The food is steak and seafood but there are quite a few options for vegetarians and vegans. At every restaurant, they can accommodate any dietary restriction you have! If you’re just looking to grab a cocktail, Velas 10 has fire pits out front. It was the perfect temperature in the evenings to sit by the fire and sip a glass of wine!
Frida.
Frida is all about all things authentic to Mexico including the fare but with a contemporary twist. We were excited for every meal but I think Friday might have topped the list. If you go, get the mole – it is one of the most exquisite presentations. The chef comes out to poor the warm mole over a chocolate structure with rabbit enclosed in it! I ordered their signature cocktail and it came with a piece of bark on fire to create a smoky feel. It was such an exciting meal!
Cocina de Autor.
This was our last meal at Grand Velas Los Cabos and it was the best. It was a 7 course meal with 2 courses being dessert! They also offered a wine pairing menu to take you on a journey through every course. It was one of those meals that was delicious but also makes you think. Everything was done in a unique and fun way. We were serenaded by a live musician – they actually have live musicians perform throughout the day all around the property!
Have you ever stayed at a Grand Velas property? Do you have a favorite luxury all inclusive resort?
