A Controversial Post on Why Leggings Can Be Worn As Pants

Oh yes. I took it there. I’ve seen so much controversy around leggings being worn as pants, that I’m sharing my thoughts on it. Just in time for Thanksgiving (a holiday practically made for leggings), this chic look is sure to get you a few compliments! And here’s why I’m okay with it leggings as pants…

Let’s get one thing out of the way first. I don’t have a perfect body. I spent most of high school in oversized knits and flared jeans to hide my hips. A few years of Pure Barre and the I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude that comes with turning 30 (yes, I’m that old), I’ve gotten to the point where I am comfortable wearing leggings in public. Public meaning places other than the gym. But let me be clear. I will only wear these faux leather leggings. They’re the most flattering leggings I’ve ever tried on and trust me, I’m the queen of scrutinizing over how my legs look. Ask my husband. I’m so loyal to them, I own 4 pairs. This wine color has to be my favorite. They are THE BEST and give me the best chance at a thigh gap (not that I condone any extreme measure to get one) that I’ve ever had.

When it comes to styling, it’s not like I’m wearing them with a crop top. So haters, stop right there. I usually pair them with tunic sweaters and flowy tops. If I had to guess why people feel so passionately against leggings, I’d guess it has to do with when your derriere isn’t covered. Agree, it can get a little scandy. However, when styled appropriately, leggings really look no different than pants. The key part of that being that the area where the pockets would be on a pair of jeans is covered by your top. If you stick to that rule, leggings are perfect acceptable!

Aside from how you look, how you feel is so important. These leggings are high waisted so they really hold you in throughout the day. There are no awkward muffin tops and the fabric is thick enough so that you feel supported. When you’re sitting at your desk job or expecting to feast all day, there’s nothing I’d rather be wearing than these leggings! That’s why they are perfect for Thanksgiving!

  1. I do know what you mean, Jenna! Because sometimes the jeans we wear are just as tight—so really what is the difference?
    The 3 of us in my blog just styled leggings earlier this week too! Of course, my mom & step mom like to cover their bums. But my pair of leggings has back pockets, so I consider them like skinny jeans!!
